What to Pack for Hanoi in November: Weather and Local Tips
Đọc bằng tiếng Việt →
November is one of Hanoi's most comfortable travel months. The intense heat of summer has passed, the air is generally drier, and days often support long periods outdoors. Even so, the temperature can shift noticeably between a sunny afternoon and a cool evening, so flexible clothing is more useful than a single heavy outfit.
Light layers form the best foundation. A breathable shirt works during the day, while a cardigan, light jacket or overshirt is useful after sunset. Travellers coming from tropical climates may feel the evening chill more strongly than visitors accustomed to cooler weather. A compact scarf is easy to carry and helpful on breezy motorbike or open-air rides.
Comfortable walking shoes are essential. Hanoi's pavements vary in width and condition, and a day may include temple courtyards, park paths, market lanes and several unexpected detours. Shoes should already be broken in before the trip. A small umbrella remains useful, not because November is defined by heavy rain, but because northern weather can still change.

Pack with indoor life in mind as well. Hanoi cafes, apartments and restaurants may feel warmer or cooler than the street. Clothing that can be added or removed easily avoids discomfort. Travellers planning an extended stay will benefit more from access to a washing machine than from bringing a large suitcase of duplicated outfits.
A small day bag should hold water, tissues, hand sanitiser and a portable battery. Keep valuable documents secured at the accommodation and carry only what is needed for the day. If exploring by ride-hailing service or taxi, having the destination written clearly on a phone helps communication.
November rewards travellers who remain adaptable. There is no need to prepare for severe winter, but there is value in being ready for a cool morning, a warm afternoon and a breezy night. Pack lightly, choose layers and leave room for the city to shape the day.
