A Hanoi Cooking Class: Questions to Ask Before Booking

A Hanoi cooking class is most useful when its format matches what you want to learn. Some experiences emphasise a market visit, others a demonstration or hands-on preparation. Ask for the actual sequence before comparing prices, and make dietary and access needs clear before booking.

Read the class as a sequence

Ask what happens from meeting to finish: market visit, demonstration, individual preparation, shared work and meal. Then identify which part you most want. If hands-on cooking is the priority, a long market walk with a short demonstration may not be the right fit. If ingredients or access matter, check both the market and kitchen stages rather than accepting one general assurance for the whole programme.

Find out who does the cooking

Ask whether participants prepare dishes individually, work in groups or mainly watch. Confirm the number of people, language and expected skill level. A photograph of a guest holding a pan does not explain how the whole session works.

If you want to learn a particular dish, check that it is included in the programme for your date rather than assuming every class uses the same menu.

Discuss ingredients properly

Tell the provider about dietary requirements and ask whether the actual menu and preparation process can meet them. Clarify broths, sauces, garnishes and shared equipment where relevant. A vegetarian option on an advert does not answer every individual requirement.

If a substitution is agreed, ask how it changes the activity. Do not rely on an unanswered note in a booking form.

Review the complete itinerary

Confirm the meeting address, transport if any, market component, kitchen location, meal and finish point. A market walk can involve different surfaces and conditions from the cooking space. Ask specific access questions for both.

Check whether the price includes all ingredients and any take-home information. Read current cancellation and change terms from the provider.

Fit it into the day

Leave time to arrive without rushing and avoid scheduling a critical departure immediately after the estimated finish. A class with a meal may be the main activity rather than something to squeeze between two large visits.

Arrange your Hanoi accommodation with AN Residence using your actual dates and needs. The class and any associated transport require their own provider confirmation; they are not included in the apartment enquiry.
